ABBA is being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame????? When KISS and The Red Hot Chili Peppers were both nominees??

And performers like Rush, Ted Nugent, Judas Priest, Alice Cooper, Iron Maiden and many more actual ROCK performers still aren't part of it.

Just change it to "Candy-ass pop bubblegum music hall of asshattery".....

This was one of those times when I was able to relax and have fun, despite the weather. Cold and drizzly is NOT fun to be in or fight. But there were lots of great friends there and I had a wondeful time, and did almost as well as I had hoped for in the tourney. There were 25 fighters, single-bout triple elim (single sword for first life, defensive secondary for second, offensive secondary as third).

I may be misremembering the order, but I fought:

Wilhelm von Arte - W
John (young fighter from Bryn Gwlad, did very well in Queens, shows a lot of promise!) - W
Duke Aaron - L
Martin (used to go by Hanse, one of Don Dore's two new cadets) - W
Tivar - W
Corbin - (Dore's other new cadet) - W
Ld. Brian - W
Maelgwyn - L (apparently the rumors of speed and skill are not exaggerations. He had a great day, especially for not having been practicing or fighting rapier much!)
Semi-Finals: Ingve (who went on to win the tourney) - L (I yielded after both leg and hand being wounded)

There were also numerous instances of fighters showing excellent honor, courtesty, and judgment with blow-calling. It was a great time!

The rest of the weekend was also a great time visiting with good friends and household.

WE. HAVE. HOUSE!!!

So, we got moved, with lots of help from wonderful friends and very good movers. We love the place. There are some minor repairs and tweaks to make, but OMG we have room for the first time since being together. It's amazing. Right now 95% of our stuff is in the garage waiting to get unpacked and settled, and all that will happen over time. But we're out of the hell-hole and in OUR HOUSE!

Oh. My. God.

I am just floored. 11-year old girl arranges and plays Rush's YYZ on an organ w/ bass pedals SOLO. Okay, first off, that she's even HEARD of Rush to begin with, and isn't absorbed in Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana/ pop crap says a lot by itself. Maybe she didn't hit every single riff the exact same, but the performance is just mind-blowing.

In just a few more days we move into the new house we're leasing. We're excited and TOTALLY sick and tired of packing. Moving is supposed to be one of the biggest stressors we have in life, and yeah, I gotta agree. Just make it done.

The list of things I'd happily do to just make everything in our place instantly magically be transported to the house and in place is long, varied, and knowing the way the minds in this crowd are, likely very disturbing.

This one is for SR:

LadyAnne was channel-surfing this morning and landed on a show we're not fond of, but stopped to watch anyway. I wasn't a fan of New Yankee Workshop before I met SR, simply because the guy's Yankee accent grinds on my nerves. But once SR pointed out that the guy's workmanship is hard to admire when he has and uses every power tool known to mankind, I have to agree; it's more more impressive to see what was made by hand in the centuries before us, and those replicating those techniques.

So we're watching him make something and trying to figure it out; we soon realized it's a step-ladder of some kind (turns out it's a replica of an antique library ladder ).

And as we're watching, we're both being perturbed by all the power tools he's using to make it, particularly the 3 different routers, the special bit he uses on the drill to make plugs, and best of all, the laser-guided Miter Saw(!!!). I was actually somewhat shocked when he used a chisel to make grooves for the hinges (granted, after he used a power tool for most of the work, the chisel was just for cleaning it up).

So he finishes it and shows what he plans on using it for:

to display his collection of power routers.

All I can think of is "Wow, what a tool this guy is".
